Big Bad Wolf Straw Bale Homes is an alternative design and construction firm, located in the South Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada. Owner Darren Ward has over eight years of project experience in locations throughout B.C. and the northwest United States.

Big Bad Wolf is primarily focused on top-quality construction, regardless of the building materials used. Darren has spent the last six years on building an expertise in the creation of structures that use a superior alternative to traditional building materials.

Before founding Big Bad Wolf, Darren trained in the construction of straw bale structures with a well-known Canadian pioneer in the field and founder of Sustainable Works.

Quite simply, straw bale construction offers a healthy, environmentally-sound space that is visually compelling and literally breathes comfort. With outstanding insulation and fire retardant ratings that are typically much higher than with traditional materials, straw bale is safe and ideal for the North American climate. Unlike other manfactured building products, straw contains no toxic elements - which means no chemical out-gassing if the appropriate finishing products are used.
